| Bio: | Character Name(s): Evelyn Tian Zhou Nicknames/Aliases: Lyn, Eve, Lynnie Gender: Female Race: Earth Mage/Fae Actual Character Age: 17 DOB: 5 – 17- 1989 Physical Description: At 5'8" in height, Evelyn is slender in form and delicate in appearance. There is a faint sheen to her skin, a healthy glow that seems almost ethereal. Her Chinese heritage shows itself in the clear, almond shape of her eyes and jet black hair that falls down her back. Her eyes are naturally a rustic brown but will at times become a dark green with the power of her glamour and will vary shades with her mood from sea green to a deep jade. Distinguishing marks: N/A PB: Chen Hao Birth Location: Portland, OR Personality: Lyn is a mixed bag that few people outside of her immediate family have come to truly understand. She is seemingly quiet, almost shy, to those she doesn't know well. Friendly, she enjoys meeting new people and experiencing new things. She almost seems to live for the experience of things, to learn, to know, and explore something different. On the other hand, there is a streak of mischief within the young woman that shows itself as more playful than anything. There's a rebelliousness there that fuels a sense of adventure. She has a deep and abiding love of nature and natural things. She sees and feels beauty in it all and it's where she turns for comfort because it is as familiar to her as herself. Personal Background: Evelyn is a second generation Chinese American, born and raised in the pacific northwest of the United States. The only daughter, and youngest child, of Jonathan and Tian Zhou, Lyn has enjoyed a special place as the baby of the family. There was more responsibility put upon her older brother, Michael, and for the most part Lyn was left to her own devices. She was daddy's little girl and it's a role she took on gladly. Though born in Portland, her parents lived further outside the city on several acres of land. Her mother, a full-blood Fae preferred it. She couldn't abide the constant hustle and bustle of city life, though her husband did not share her proclivities. Her father worked within the city, an engineer for a tech firm he saw technology as a way to try and repair the damage that had been wrought on the environment and not as the detriment that some relegated it to. As she grew up, she made aware of her mixed heritage. Lyn knew she was different than the normal humans she grew up around. But never did she feel out of place or left out, it was just normal for her. Her mother died when she was very young, an incident her father never spoke of, he made sure both she and her brother were aware of who they truly were. She showed a knack for her father's magics, being able to manipulate plant life and shape living things at will. Less advanced were the abilities she inherited from her mother. Her skills in Glamour seemed less fluid and harder for her to try and control. Often tied at times to her moods. A shift in eye color, a strange highlight of hair, or other subtle things. But it wasn't all magic and glamour. Lyn showed an amazing aptitude for music and composition from a very young age. She could sit for hours listening to different composition pieces and even before formal training, she could play incredibly well just by ear. It was a talent her father encouraged and Evelyn excelled. Lyn's grandmother, Mei Shan Zhou, was a powerful earth mage who was born near Mt. Wutai in China before moving to the United States. Though she moved to Vancouver Canada before Evelyn was even born, she would often come back to see her grandchildren after the death of their mother. And Lyn and her brother would spend the occasional summer in Canada under her watchful eye. It was one such summer that would prove to be most impressionable to the teenager and different than any other. Her grandmother wanted Evelyn to move there temporarily in an attempt to further open her abilities. It was also around that time a tribe of elves had moved into the nearby wilderness area, having migrated from the US. One of their elven leaders was an old friend and ally of Mei. When her grandmother said she would have an opportunity to meet the elves, Lyn couldn't have been more excited. Growing up she had not met any of her mother's people and had spent her all her time with her father and grandmother. These elves would be the first woodland dwellers she had ever met. Something she welcomed, though she wasn't at all expecting what would become of it. When the elves arrived, she was introduced to the son of Mei's ally, Aramil. Though he was older than she, he was incredibly young by elven standards. Outgoing and forward, Lyn thought him fascinating. He was passionate in his views and was clearly dedicated to what he saw as his responsibilities. Though she could tell he thought very little of humans, against all odds, they quickly became friends and spent a great deal of time together. He taught her about wilderness lore and even introduced her to others who made up their protectorate. She met nymphs, dryads, and even other fae. But something incredible seemed to happen the more time she spent with Ari. What was at first simply a friendship based on common thoughts and beliefs soon become something more. As their relationship blossomed from friends to lovers, it was mutually agreed they should not share it with their families. But though they attempted to keep it a secret as long as possible, the amount of time they spent together became suspect enough. Still, neither cared about the silent disapproval as they continued on. Things seemed to go so well for awhile. Lyn went from being almost entirely introverted with her music to becoming more outgoing, exploring the world around her, and indulging in her natural curiousity. She was in a whole new world, in love for the first time, and things could not have been better. And that's when everything fell apart. She thought Ari felt much the same as she did. But only too soon it became apparent that as much as he may have cared, it was still different. And to her, that translated into his lack of caring at all. It was as if her whole world came apart all in one fail swoop. Her hurt and anger fueled her and the argument between them would ultimate drive them apart in a spectacular display of drama that only teenagers are fully capable of pushing and pulling. Lost as she was in her own emotional state, she was only vaguely aware of the fallout of their relationship which nearly broke an alliance. Her grandmother had warned her and she had not listened. It was then that Evelyn choose to return to the States, escaping exactly what she had thought she wanted the most. She isolated herself in a way she had not before and it took a great deal of coaxing from both her father and brother to bring the girl back to herself once again. She was resolved not to let such a thing break her. She made deliberate efforts to explore again, be adventurous, and not shut herself up or out. And there was that desire to once again seek that part of her she barely knew. So when she suggested going to the Halcyon school, her father was only too happy to grant her wish. She first learned of it's existence when she was with Ari and his people. While she wasn't ready to go then, she felt ready now. Where else could she fully embrace herself as a human mage and a fae. He had raised and taught her the best he could, now it was time for her go to that next level and see the world on her own. Her father took advantage of his connections through his mother and a scout was contacted from the Halcyon school. A scout was sent to lead them to the school as Evelyn proved to be a good candidate for their instruction. Unfortunately, Lyn had no idea that Aramil himself was already there. Still, there is a whole new world out there that she wants to explore again. A challenge she is more than ready to embrace. Family: Father: Jon Zhou (Earth Mage) Mother: Tian Zhou (Fae, deceased) Brother: Michael Zhou Grandmother: Mei Shan Zhou (Earth Mage) Weakness: Evelyn is particularly susceptible to musical enchantments. Because of her natural fascination and talent, it's at best a distraction, at worst it leaves her vulnerable and unable to resist its allure. Also, she carries a natural predisposition against air magic. It's harder for her to combat such magic because from both her mother and her father she is grounded in earth. Lyn is also frail of form, compared to a full human, and is particular vulnerable to physical harm where another might be able to offer greater resistance and resilience. Being half-fae, Lyn does not have the full measure of fae abilities. Everything from her flight to her aging has been tempered by her human blood and disadvantaged in that regard. Magical Abilities: Evelyn is an earth mage who can control plant matter growth and movement. She has also inherited her mother's Glamour ability, though it's limited to her personal appearance. Any Training: She has had home training from her father and grandmother in the use of her mage skills. Her grandmother took particular care to help her so she is further along in her skills here. Though there are still nuances she just doesn't quite get or understand. Her abilities in glamour are a lot less controlled and harder for her to grasp. They are underdeveloped and seemingly random, tied to her emotional state and varying thoughts. Special Skills: Inherited from her fae mother, Lyn's skin holds fae dust though she has no control over the effects. She also has discovered minor flight abilities, though she has no physical wings. She can only fly for limited periods of time as the process is particularly exhausting for her. Though she can hover with a little more ease. Evelyn has been trained in archery and swordplay, though she's not expert in either her skills are quite passable. She's also been taught how to survive in the wilderness. Tracking, hunting, shelter building, and trail signs. These skills have actually been tested and combined with her natural affinity for the earth, she has a near enough expertise. Her truly remarkable skill is in music however. A composer and songwriter at heart, she is versed in several instruments including the piano, flute, and guitar (acoustic).
